About Mint Childcare

Rolda Mitchell, owner and director of Mint Childcare, has been caring for children for over 22 years. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, she began working with local families at just 19, eventually opening Mint Daycare in the basement of her Montclair home, right across from beautiful Canterbury Park. There, she and her husband raised five children while nurturing countless others in the community.
Now, over two decades later, Mint Childcare is expanding to a new location at Central Presbyterian Church—a place Rolda and her family have been members of for nearly 20 years. This move, built on years of planning and strong ties with the church, marks an exciting new chapter that promises to continue making a lasting impact on the Montclair community.
Our Philosophy
At our daycare, we believe that every child is a unique, capable, and curious individual. Our philosophy is rooted in the understanding that children learn best through play, exploration, and meaningful relationships. We provide a nurturing, safe, and stimulating environment where children can grow socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually at their own pace. Guided by developmentally appropriate practices and inspired by approaches like Reggio Emilia, we foster creativity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
